Now that tax season is officially over, you should be receiving your company’s tax refund from the 2014 season soon. If you’re having trouble finding a way to put it to good use towards your company, use some of our tips to make the most out of these extra funds.

  1. Give out bonuses. If you have a few of those employees who have stood out these last few months, but you haven’t had enough money in the budget to reward them, take advantage of this extra money now. Even if it’s a small amount, every little bit helps your employees feel more appreciated.
  2. Host a company event. Celebrate spring with a company family picnic, buy tickets for the local circus, or give out gift certificates for local restaurants with your tax return money.
  3. Pay off a bill. If you’ve slowly been paying back your rent, electricity bill, or an outside service, use this extra money to pay off thise debts.
  4. Upgrade your programs. If that Word, Photoshop, or other programs that your office uses needs to be upgraded, take the time to do so now.
  5. Replace what’s broken. If the printer is on its last leg or all of the light bulbs are starting to flicker, putting that extra money into these office supplies will help save your employees from more annoyance.
  6. Invest in lowering your next tax bill. Donating to a charity and making small changes to “go green” around your business are only a couple of small ways you can get a jump start to next year’s tax return. Investing your money in these now can help bring your company ahead next year.
  7. Invest in a freelancer. If you have the extra money to spend on a new employee, gamble your tax return on a freelancer. You can test out what skills and services they have to offer with the extra money, and see if they are something you would like to permanently bring on to your team.
